March 5, 2008 -Solomon Trimble - A 23 year old Native American, has just signed onto the role of Sam Uley for all three films. -Edi Gathegi as Laurent -Sarah Clarke is Renee ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ According to a report from a member of the Twilight Moms Forum, her cousin spotted the cast (well, Peter Facinelli for sure) of Twilight out eating dinner in Portland the other day! The member's cousin has not read Twilight yet, so she based this this siting on seeing Peter with some other people. This is a little of what was posted on the forum: Cousin was at dinner on Saturday night with The Richies (I am not mentioning places because The VM said to be careful). The place she tells me about is SUPER NICE, and I could totally see them chillaxing there). Anyways, the server happens to be her friend and comes over while taking drink requests and says…So you see that table of five over there? Cousin and The Richies look, and the server says, they are in town for a movie. Cousin immediately perks up and asks what movie and the server says (and I asked her three times if she was sure) “some movie about vampires” all super nonchalantly, and after some more chit chat the server says “I have no clue who they are but the guy with the hat looks a little familiar.” PEOPLE, the guy with the hat was freaking Peter Faccinelli, my cousin said she went to the restroom and got a good look at him and she’s sure it was him but his hair didn’t look right (she meant the blonde, since she only knows him as a brunette). And I tried to get her to describe the hat (using the description from the Rhonda and lynds pix?) and she was no help at all. Anyhow, apparently Peter was there along with three other females that “did not look spectacular in any particular way” (yes, words from cousin) and another guy…(here it is) with a weird red dye job! Totally Rob but she had no pic for reference. DANG IT. And she said he was “messin’” with the girl next to him who looked average, dark brown hair, jeans and some Chucks (Kirsten???)! I asked her if they were touchy feely or just giggly and silly? But she stopped paying attention after 15 minutes. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- According to an, they will no longer be filming the movie at R. A. Long High School (but they're still using Kalama)! Instead they have added two new filming locations: Clackamas Community College and Madison High School! Also, it was said that: Filming at Kalama High School has been extended by four days, and will occur March 17 to 24, while school is in session. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And this article has ranked Twilight as #2 on their list of "Top 50 book to movies." Thanks to Laura for the info! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- March 4, 2008 Q&A With Stephenie Here’s the Q&A session Stephenie had during her visit to Hamburg, Germany. This Q & A was written (transcribed) by isabelle16 in LJ. Thanks to Sarah85 1. How did you get the idea to write a love-story about vampires? Well, I’m not a huge fan of horror novels. I’m kind of a chicken! And I *we can’t understand what she said anymore* I dreamed about vampires and it was such an exciting dream that I just wanted to write it and that was the beginning of chapter 13 of Twilight and since then I have not stopped writing about vampires. 2. You said ‘I wrote it for myself and for mothers thinking of their first unfulfilled love’. What does it mean? Did you remember such an unfulfilled love when you wrote the story? When I wrote Twilight I wasn’t thinking about any audience besides myself and I think it was a chance for me to go back and relive first love again. You don’t get that more than once. Sometimes you get something better later on but first love is a onetime deal and I wanted to go through all of that terror and passion and fear and happiness that comes through love and that is kind of a rollercoaster ride and it’s amazingly thrilling to ride it. 3. Then I read that you when you write you listen to music. You have your special tunes for example ‘Coldplay’, ‘U2′ and there is another special group ‘Muse’, right? How does it work? How do you write and when do you write because you’re a mother. Do you write at night, during the day or do you turn your music really loud? How does it really work? Okay, I begin with headphones to I don’t wake the kids up because I write when they’re sleeping. It’s much easier. Uhm… I picked the music I listen to when I write as it fits the mood. When I wrote Twilight I was mostly listening to ‘Linking Park’. It has a very strong beat. It kept the story moving. Because, you know, it has kind of a driving beat to it. And when I was working on New Moon my music was a lot slower and more depressing. And that was when I discovered ‘Muse’ and from then on ‘Muse’ has always been a huge part of my playlist. They’re my very favorite band. With each book that I write I get to discover new bands and let the music sometimes write the scenes. When I was working on Eclipse in the very beginning I first listened to Muse’s ‘hysteria’ and I was listening to that song as my favorite over and over again and as I was listening the scene where Jacob and Bella kissed was choreographed in my head and if weren’t that song I don’t think it would’ve turned out quiet the same way. (That woman who was translating everything to German was a little weird and didn’t really get it when Stephenie said that she writes at night. So, after Stephenie answered the music question that weird German woman asked again “And when do you write? At night?” and Stephenie answered with a “yeah, when the kids are asleep” and the woman said “Respect!”) 4. Do the actors for the Twilight movie look like you imagined them? I am really excited about I would say 95% of the actors which I think is a really good margin. Particularly I think they did a great job with Edward and that is the most important. It could’ve been a really bad thing but I had a chance to me Robert Pattinson and actually have a really involved conversation with him about how depressed Edward was in Twilight. And I have to tell you, I know there is a lot of people who didn’t like him right away and there is some who are still holding out for some other actors… uhm… I gotta say I’m not getting this whole Gaspard Ulliel thing, I’m sorry. But, uhm, when I got the chance to talk to him we were having lunch and we could see him walking up the road and his hair was already dyed red and he had that long black coat and you could see the people on the street kinda stopping and looking at him and thinking… and it wasn’t like “who is that?” it was more like “What is that?” *Stephenie says that in a really mesmerized tone* He doesn’t even really look cute. I mean, he looked more like an Angel than a person. And he got such an interesting face and you sit there and talk to him you hardly know what to say. He would say “Why are Carlisle and Edward so close, they aren’t even real family” and I was looking at him saying “what is… what was that again?” *Stephenie does that in a really dreamy expression, kind of swooning* I think that he’s going to be amazing and that the actress who is playing Bella, uhm, you should’ve seen her when we were all together, she was over there and was like *Stephenie shows the way Kristen adored/drooled over Robert* He is perfect, really, you don’t have to need to worry. 5. How did you get the idea of the vampire family? All these characters… do you know somebody like them or are they all fantasy? It’s 90% fantasy and then, uhm, I didn’t… The Cullens, when I was writing the story, they came to me really naturally I was writing about Edward and Bella and then it just seemed obvious that Edward has a sister named Alice who could see the future and all the rest of them came to me easily and, uhm, I didn’t really think about where they came from until I was doing an interview a couple of years later and the interviewer asked if “Bella’s family is like yours” and I kind of laughed because Bella is an only child with divorced parents and my parents were married for like a hundred and ten years and I have a bunch of brothers and sisters and I said “no, no I come from a big family and we’re really close. We are all very different but we all get along really well” And as I was hearing myself I was thinking “Oh my gosh, we are the Cullens!” That’s where they came from and my dad really is like Carlisle except that he looks a lot greyer. But, so I think the Cullens are based on my big family and the idea that even though we’re all very, very different and sometimes you probably think we’re crazy, underneath it all we’d die for each other. 6. Is it true that there will be a fourth book? Yes, it is absolutely true. In fact, the fourth book, I’ve finished the rough draft. We’re working on editing and it should be out in the US on August 2nd. So, soon. 7. Edward once said that there was a list of people who like Bella more than she thinks and she’d be surprised who’s on it. Who are those people on the list? Most of the boys, of course you know about Mike and Tyler and that, and uhm, the one that is on the list that she would be surprised about was the one that was kind of inappropriate and that was the biology teacher Mr. Banner. 8. How tall is Alice? Alice, I think, is around four nine, four eight… uhm… I don’t know how to work that into meters. *someone screams her size in meters from the back* Okay, she’s one meter and forty-seven centimeters. 9. How long have you written on the first book? How long did it take me to write it? Uhm… I wrote Twilight in three months. It was over the summer. I was extremely involved in the story. Uhm, the others have both taken a little bit longer because I can’t just write. I, uhm, have to do touring and editing and so it slows me down. 10. Will Jacob play a role in the fourth book? Oh, I probably should have said this first. I don’t answer anything about the fourth book. 11. What’s your favorite quote? Out of all of the books? Oh, a favorite quote? Oh, that’s… That’s too hard. I the last book, which should be the most recent, I can’t really remember because my head is all full with book four right now. But I think in book three one of my favorite ones was when Emmett is giving Bella a hard time about her hand. He said “You fall down again, Bella?” and she is like “No, I punched a werewolf in the face, Emmett.” 12. Are you going to stop after the fourth book and the Edward one? I’m not sure. Right now I am a little bit tired of vampires. I have a lot of other stories and some of them I really like to work on. At the same time, I can’t imagine ever really stopping writing about my vampires and so after midnight sun is done and after I take a little time off I do have some other stories. They won’t be from Bella’s perspective. They will be from other perspectives. Uhm, but I think I will come back to the Cullens eventually. 13. Can vampires have babies? Uhm, there is all kind of information about that online at the Twilight Lexicon. We’ve had a very long discussion. Uhm, but part of my non-answering questions about the fourth book is that I have been very careful not to answer the even the most hypothetical questions because if I pick and choose to which ones I’d say “oh, that will never be involved in this book” then people would be figuring out the ones I’m not answering. So, even when someone asks me “What happens if a vampire bites a unicorn?” I’m not gonna answer any ‘What happens’ questions. 14. You said you dreamed about the vampires. What exactly did you dream of? In my dream, they didn’t have names then, but there was this beautiful, sparkly vampire and he was with a girl in a meadow and he was trying to explain to her why it was so hard not to kill her and in the dream I knew they were in love and all these problems they had and then when I woke up I wrote chapter thirteen, which is the meadow scene, and then, after I finished, I wanted to know what is gonna happen to them. Was he gonna kill her or how do they work it out. And so that is why I kept writing. 15. Did you create the vampires all on your own or did you have some kind of picture for them from another book or movie like “Interview with the vampire”. No, uhm, before Twilight I think I had read one vampire book, one of Anne Rice’s. I don’t remember wich one, I read it a long time ago and I don’t think I really liked it. It was too scary. And, uhm, I’ve never seen a vampire movie in my life, I’ve never read ‘Dracula’, I’m just not into horror. So, when Twilight comes out in the theaters that will be the first time I’ve ever seen a vampire movie. 16. Who’s your favorite character? The one you feel most related to? That’s… I can’t pick one. Because they’re all kinda like my kids and you can’t pick favorites. Uhm, but, you know, Bella is kinda like a sister to me, like a daughter to me. Sometimes I don’t like her decisions so much but then Edward and I can see things the same way. If there’s ever an argument going on in the book you can pretty much believe that I’m siding with Edward. And then there is Alice who would be the perfect best friend. I would love to be able to hang out with her. And then Carlisle and Emmet and… It’s hard… I can’t pick. 17. Okay, A friend on an online Forum ( jj_jule was asking this question for a friend) asked me to ask you this question. She wanted to know what would happen if one of the Cullens wouldn’t kill one of the animals they drink the blood of? They wouldn’t kill it. Would they turn into a vampire-animal kind of thing? No, no. The vampires that are… are… their food… it’s just, the venom is too strong for animals. It would kill them. 18. Did you create Edward after your own fantasy of your dream guy? (The weird German translating woman did translate that question totally different and confused Stephenie with it. So, now Stephenie’s answer doesn’t really fit to the question). I wasn’t really looking for someone that dangerous. I, I really… Edward was sort of… when I first came up with the idea of Edward in my dream… He wasn’t exactly like anything I’ve looked for but he did have elements… I always have liked red-heads quite a bit… so, there were pieces of him but he wasn’t based on anybody I knew before or any ideal I had. 19. Do you identify yourself with Bella? The whole thing that she doesn’t really know what she wants. Well, uhm… When I was in college I was engaged with many people. So, uhm, I understand being confused and I understand loving different people in different ways. And, uhm, I think that if you’ve never been in love before it’s kind of hard to imagine ever getting past the first person you’ve loved. But after you’ve been through that and had your heart broken and moved on and found a different kind of love you start to understand how there are many good things and not all of them are even comparable. You can’t say this is absolutely the best and this is only secondary. Love comes in so may different forms and it is really hard to choose between them. 20. If you were Bella. Would you choose Edward or Jacob? *long pause* I think I would see if they would agree to a sharing situation. I couldn’t make a decision -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- February 26, 2008 Billy Burke Confirms Role as Charlie "I started off my career being the bad boyfriend running around with the gun, and now I'm officially old enough to play a 17-year-old's father," observes Billy Burke, recently seen in the thriller "Untraceable" — and now, just beginning work as Kristen Stewart's pere in the adaptation of Stephenie Meyers' young adult novel, "Twilight." Also, real uniforms and badges, and other information from the Forks Police Department will be used. La Push is still being considered for shooting- Catherine Hardwicke has already scouted the location. Now, two more actors have joined what is shaping up to be a beloved, bloodsucking blockbuster — with hopes that "Twilight" marks the start of a brand-new day. "Rocket Science" actress Anna Kendrick and "Just Jordan" star Justin Chon are the latest additions to the soon-to-shoot vampire flick, joining Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattison (a.k.a. Cedric Diggory in the "Potter" series). Based on the #1 best-selling series by Stephenie Meyer, the flick begins shooting in Washington at the end of this month with "Thirteen" filmmaker Catherine Hardwicke at the helm, and is intended to launch a series containing at least three films. The 23-year-old Kendrick will be playing the pivotal role of Jessica Stanley, a classmate to Stewart's main character, Bella. Jessica — best friend to the teen who opens the film by reuniting with her estranged father in Forks, Washington — is a chatterbox who helps Bella adjust to her new school, but eventually has a falling out with her over the affections of heartthrob Mike Newton. She makes appearances not only in "Twilight," but also the sequels "New Moon" and "Eclipse." Chon, meanwhile, has been cast as Eric Yorkie, a key member of Bella's high school posse. Described in the books as a 6-foot-3 student with greasy hair and a poor complexion, he is one of the first students to befriend Bella at her new school and eventually asks her to the dance. An admitted geek, he claims to have a girlfriend of his own, but is undoubtedly jealous when Bella falls hard for Edward Cullen (Pattison), a sexy student later revealed to be a 100-year-old vampire. "A girl moves into a small town, and she's different from everyone there," Stewart told MTV News recently while preparing for the role of Bella. "People like her, oddly enough, and she has no idea why. Then she falls in love with a vampire. What I like about it is that the characters are really unique." First published in 2005, the novel "Twilight" has since been followed by "New Moon" in 2006 and "Eclipse" in 2007. Equal parts horror, romance and fantasy, series author Meyer announced this week that the fourth book, "Breaking Dawn," will be released August 8. The fifth and most likely final book, titled "Midnight Sun," is expected soon afterward and will serve as a companion piece to "Twilight," as told by Edward rather than Bella. "It's a vampire movie. It's a love story. It's based on a book that's really popular with young adults and high school kids, and it's supposed to have a huge following," Stewart said of the series, which has proved very popular on the MTV Movies Blog. "I don't want to say it's targeted towards kids, because really anybody could see it. "I don't want to make movies for kids, and I don't want to make movies for adults either," Stewart continued, adding that she hopes the vampire series will walk a fine line much like "Potter" or "Lord of the Rings" before it. "['Twilight'] deals with the universe, and what life is about. ... You can make that cliché and bullsh-- and make it with everything being on the surface, [or] in this case make it a pretty triumphant love story." More casting announcements are expected to be made in the next few weeks, including the key roles of Jacob Black, Sam Uley, Emily Young and Alice Cullen. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Justin Chon joins cast of Twilight! ![]() It has been released that Justin Chon from Just Jordan has been cast in the film. Long High School in Longview. Producers of a film-rendition of the novel "Twilight" —- a story about a teenage girl who falls in love with a vampire — are interested in using R.A. Long’s cafeteria, gym and a couple other spots to shoot scenes. "They love the building. They’ve been here a few times," said Andrew Frost, prinicipal of the historic, brick-faced school. He said Tuesday he isn’t sure when film crews will arrive but if producers do decide to use the school he expects it would be during spring break: March 30 to April 5. "Twilight" also is planning to film at Kalama High School and other Northwest locations. A large brick building located atop a steep hill, Kalama High School is said to fit the description of a school described in the novel. The Kalama School Board on Monday night agreed to let crews film on campus March 17-20. Administrators had hoped the shoot would coincide with spring break. But board members said the school can manage even though classes will be in session during the filming period. Sophomores are taking the Washington Assessment of Student Learning exam (WASL) a week before the shoot, Kalama High School Principal Mike Hamilton told the board. Producers plan to film in Kalama High’s office, a girl’s restroom, an outdoor field and science room, Hamilton said. Students can also expect film crews will take over their parking lot. Despite the inconveniences created by film crews, Kalama School Board members remained optimistic the filming would create a learning opportunity for students. ![]() ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Filming Permits Approved Stevenson has drawn a lot of camera crews recently, but it's not good news when the attraction is a landslide. Now the community can look forward to something more productive, which makes sense since it involves, well ? a production. Skamania County commissioners just approved permits for a movie company that will film in the Stevenson area. Based on Stephenie Meyer's best-selling novel for young adults, "Twilight" tells the story of a teenage girl who falls in love with a vampire. Most shooting sites are in Oregon, but Skamania County is renting its road shop on Highway 14 for $10,000. "It's a short-term rental, two or three weeks. They'll build a set inside the shop and shoot on the set," said Larry Douglass, public works director. "They will pay us $6,000 to rent the shop; $3,000 to empty it out and then replace everything when they're done; and $1,000 in administrative fees. This is not a time of year when it's critical for us to use it. "They are also looking at some private properties," Douglass said. Publicist Peter Silbermann said filming starts Feb. 25. They applied for some permits on spec, Silbermann said. Not all permitted sites will necessarily be film locations. They wanted all the paperwork done in case they do choose to film at those sites. While Skamania County will get a nice $10,000 check, the chance to be part of some Hollywood excitement sounds appealing, too, Douglass said. "It will be nice to have something better than the Rock Creek slide publicizing the county," he said. The Tonya factor A familiar Clark County skater popped up as part of an unexpected political comparison during a recent segment of NBC's "Meet the Press." New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd was discussing the Democratic presidential primary and had some thoughts on Barack Obama's experiences with the Hillary Clinton campaign machine. "He doesn't have to be Tonya Harding to fight back," Dowd said. "He could be like Ronald Reagan and just flick them away, and use wit." But can a soon-to-shoot movie similarly turn the creaky film cliché of vampires into the next multimillion-dollar fantasy flick franchise? “The movie is called ‘Twilight,’ ” 17-year-old “Into the Wild” actress Kristen Stewart beamed when we recently spoke to her. “[’Lords of Dogtown’ filmmaker] Catherine Hardwicke is directing it in Washington. It’s based on a book that’s pretty popular [among] young adult, high school kids.” Although Stewart and co-star Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory!) will soon film only the first movie, they’re already talking about turning the vampire storyline into a series that really sucks. And since the latest book sold over 150,000 copies in its first day alone, Bella and Edward fans everywhere are already counting down the months until the film’s release. “People really love these books,” said Stewart. “Right now it’s a trilogy, and a fourth book is coming out, so hopefully we’ll get to shoot all four.” For those who haven’t yet been bitten, “Twilight” will feature Stewart as Bella Swan, a teenage girl whose life gets turned upside-down after she meets and falls in love with a vampire. Additional names will be cast in the next few weeks, but according to the actress, 21-year-old Pattinson is already sinking his teeth into the role of Edward. “He’s so good and he’s so soulful and he’s just not a liar — you can feel pain from him,” Stewart cooed. “The cool thing about the story is that it’s a seemingly wonderful fantasy — let’s fall in love with vampires and live forever — but it’s so much harder than that. Imagine living forever. Living one life is hard enough.” But don’t get fooled into thinking this is going to be “The Notebook” for the undead. “The main character is like, superhuman,” Stewart said of the action scenes in the script. “He’s a vampire, but with really [heightened powers]; he can run faster than a car can drive, and he’s super strong. He throws me over his back [in one scene], right before he’s going to tell me that he’s a vampire, and then he runs over the treetops. And we’re going to be in real treetops; we’re not just going to CGI it. We actually get to go up there, and that’s what I’m stoked on.” “It’s a pretty triumphant love story,” Stewart concluded, looking forward to stepping in front of the cameras. “It’s gonna take a while, and it [deserves to be] at least a series of three.” --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- January 31, 2008 Director Hardwicke Scouting Film Locations The director of the Twilight movie, Catherine Hardwicke, is scouting out more school filming locations according to Oregon Blogger Gene Brunak: "In that vein, I just met Catherine Hardwicke; the director of "Lords of Dogtown" and the underappreciated "Thirteen." She was kind enough to stop and chat, while scouting shooting locations at Madison High, for her next feature film, "Twilight," about teen vampires. She came off as kind and personable. I anticipate good things for her new movie." c/o staytwilight.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- January 26, 2008 Forks High School taking place According to TDN’s new article scenes from Forks High School will be filmed at Kalama High School located 30 miles north of Vancouver, Washington. ![]() c/o Twilighters.org --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight the movie was recently switched from the "Pre-Production" section to the "In-Production" section on Summit Entertainment's website. c/o StephenieMeyer.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Casting Call for Jacob Black (press release) THE SEARCH IS ON FOR NATIVE AMERICAN TEEN TO PLAY KEY ROLE IN MAJOR MOTION PICTURE. "Director Catherine Hardwicke is keen to find the right teenager for the role of Jacob," says Casting Director Lana Veenker, owner of the Portland, Oregon-based casting company. "Besides being an authentic Native American, he needs to have charm and charisma. At this point, Catherine is more concerned about finding someone with the right looks and personality, than she is about prior acting experience. And he needs to be available for sequels! This will be an amazing opportunity for one lucky teenager."
